Cloud Computing: Profitability, Growth and Security Event Information
Risks and benefits of cloud and mobility services
An entertaining session highlighting the specific benefits and real risks inherent in different models of cloud computing. This included seeing a live mobility demonstration showing cloud services being accessed via remote devices in a real life situation and hearing how to address the security concerns around data accessibility and protection. There were also case studies discussed about other organisations, at different stages of their own technology and business lifecycle, who have successfully transitioned to the cloud and avoided common pitfalls.

An exclusive and intimate cloud seminar, the event was designed for IT professionals who want to touch and feel the technology that drives the cloud - rather than just hear about it conceptually.
In partnership with IBM, we gave the IT community the opportunity for an in-depth look at the infrastructure for cloud computing and offered quality time with industry experts who could answer specific queries, concerns and discuss the challenges. Ideal for cynics of the term ‘cloud computing’, with a curiosity about the substance behind it, this event provided the opportunity to get hands on the hardware and ask the awkward questions.
IBM’s Mobile Innovation Centre was at our Birstall Campus for a single day on Wednesday 20th July – the only time it has been at a UK customer event in the last 12 months.
Cloud, Continuity and Risk Events
The content of these events was put together based on real life customer experience and industry feedback. The aim was to give attendees a rounded view of cloud computing, highlighting the benefits, but also the risks. The expert speakers drew a clear picture of the reasons for moving to a cloud model and discussed how to incorporate cloud computing into a wider business continuity plan and risk approach.
The event gave chance to learn about overlapping and related topics that are often discussed in isolation.

ICM Launch Shadow-Planner v4
Thursday 18th November saw the hugely successful public launch of Shadow-Planner V4 Enterprise version. The launch, held at the prestigious Cumberland Marble Arch Hotel in London, was attended by over 110 industry professionals who witnessed a packed agenda and live Shadow-Planner V4 demo.
The agenda included;
> An update from Mike Osborne on the ICM infrastructure used to deliver Shadow-Planner
> A BS25999 Auditors view of what they look for from a BC Plan
> An explanation of the principles of/roadmap for Shadow-Planner from Simon Maddox
> Live demonstration of new functionality and explanation of enhanced features
> Two excellent customer user presentations from Commerzbank and Royal & Sun Alliance
> An explanation of how to keep BC on the Board Agenda and ICM’s professional services
The feedback from the attendees was unanimously ‘excellent’ and the V4 performance, user interface and functionality demonstrated were exceptional. There was also significant interest and excitement in the Blackberry V4 application which was demonstrated for the first time.
